are in Fordyce, Arkansas as I type this. We were able to see Joshua
yesterday and the day before. It was WONDERFUL to spend some time with
him during his break times at Fire Academy. The Academy is IMPRESSIVE.
We were able to sit in the parking lot, with binoculars and watch
through a chain link fence at some of his drills on Tuesday. That was
very interesting and fun. The jet lag is getting better. I’m looking
forward to my body be on schedule for the local time zone (not that we
are helping it too much this week. I have some time in Central,
Mountain, Eastern, then back to Central.
Doug and I are scheduled
for flights TODAY out of Little Rock, AR. Winter weather has moved into
many areas, and we are praying that our flights will safely happen. If
we miss a flight, it will really complicate things.

“No, it is most unfortunate. He won’t be able to move those large luggages and continue.”

It was day 11 of 15 for this trip to Uganda. It had already been a long day with some travel, working with the new accountant that is helping us to get caught up with many things and regulations, additionally, there were meetings with the graphics design artist and other meetings. We finally wrapped up what we were doing and were seeking to try to drive back to Iganga before dark.

We probably could have returned before the light of the day was completely gone, but as we sped down the main highway flowing with and meeting lots of traffic, we saw him. There with just his wheels pointed towards the highway was a local man, his motorcycle and two HUGE bags of maize. He was on the opposite of the road, facing the direction that we had just come from. At first glance, I thought he had probably parked for some reason and the motorcycle had fallen over. He was in a predicament for sure.

The driver of the vehicle and I started talking about his case. I asked if he thought he was going to be okay? The reply, “No, it is most unfortunate. He won’t be able to move those large luggages and continue.” (Luggages is often a term used instead of cargo, etc.) I asked if we should go back and help. The driver looked hopeful, and said, “Can, we?” I gave a most definite yes. We started looking for a place to turn around. It was a distance before we could. I said if it had been him, I hope someone would stop to help him.

There is a concern when coming up on an “accident” like this one It could be a hoax, trying to get drivers to stop, then you get robbed and even lose your vehicle. As we approached it seemed very legitimate. This guy was in trouble. As we approached he was removing the ropes that held the two huge bags of maize to the motorcycle. We approached and said we were so sorry for his situation. His first words to me, as he looked up yet continued to work were, “Well done.”

We helped him get the motorcycle back to the upright position, and he showed us the loose spoke on his rear tire. It had come loose and gone into the chain of the motorcycle and brought him to a quick halt. It could have been the end of his life. He and my driver worked to get it out of the chain and out of the way. Then he tried to start the motorcycle. It would not start. My driver asked him many questions. He then asked me if we could try to get him to a village that could help him with fixing the motorcycle. I agreed. We decided we would try to load up the motorcycle and the two bags of maize, and drive to the village. We loaded the two bags first. It was almost more than the three of us could do. Later my drive said they probably weighed 200 KG each. (440 lbs. each bag). We barely got them into the middle seat of the van. After moving seats out of the way, we finally got the motorcycle into the back also, which is rather miraculous. We couldn’t get the door closed, but tied it the best we could. In moving the motorcycle to the van, the spoke came loose again! OH WHAT A MIRACLE that motorcycle didn’t start. This many would have wrecked again had we gotten him on his way, and this time in the dark, possibly losing his life completely!

I noticed he was starting to limp more and more. It seems the adrenaline was wearing off, and he was starting to feel the physical pain from injuries. I saw a place on his foot that was damaged and bleeding slightly. The fact that he didn’t more injured is another miracle. Motorcycle, and 880 lbs. of cargo landing on his leg could have really messed him up. As we started to pull back onto the busy highway, my driver said that the man was feeling a lot of pain now, and asked if we could go all the way back to Jinja and deliver the maize to the place he was supposed to take it. I agreed.

We had to pass through a police checkpoint, but they didn’t stop us, for which we are thankful. We had no place for a third person to sit, and the man wanted to ride with his motorcycle to make sure it didn’t fall out the back or the door open.

We made it to the place where the man indicated. He limped off and came back with three young men who unloaded the big bags (with many challenges) and then also the motorcycle. The man again thanked us very much. We turned around and headed back to Iganga.

My driver told me thank you. I told HIM thank you. He said that the man had run out of options and if we had not stopped he would have had to stay the whole night there on the side of the road. It was a distance from either village. He told me that it was a place where many robbers are and it would not have been good. We arrived back in Iganga quite late.

The first words he said to me, rang in my ears: Well done.

That is the things I most want to hear from Jesus when He returns. I want to hear the words as they are written in Matthew 25:21. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Thou has been faithful over a few things….. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

I’m thankful that the Holy Spirit impressed us to stop and help him. Before we pulled away, I told him that God had impressed us to help him. I hope that he knows just how much God loves him and that he will walk closer and closer with him each day. God really does care about each one of us.

What a privilege it is when we get to be the hands of feet of Jesus.

It was an encouragement to me to here “well done”, and it just makes my heart long for the day when I hear Jesus say this. I know that anything good that comes out of my life is from Him. I am thankful that He used us this night.

The great Nile river starts in Jinja, Uganda coming from Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is one of the largest lakes in the world and the largest in Africa. The Nile is the longest river in the world. It is amazing to me as I looked out over the headwaters of the great Nile river, I thought about how this source of water brings life to so many along its path. And certainly, water is very important to life, but there is another source of life that is so important and so many are perishing for lack of knowledge about Him. On our way to the refugee camps, we cross another bridge over the Nile. At this place in the Nile, the waters are raging with huge rapids. The day we started our trip up north toward the refugee camps, we came upon an accident scene. It was rather fresh, as there were not many vehicles or people there. As we came up, we saw people running to investigate.

We could see that there was a body in the middle of the road, laying lifelessly. Someone in the vehicle asked how fast would a car be going to kill a person instantly like that. Another in the vehicle said speed isn’t needed for such a tragedy. Simply falling incorrectly and hitting one’s head badly can cause death.

Soon several people lifted the lifeless form and placed him in the back of a truck, and they drove the man away. I thought about how just that morning, this person had no idea that this was the last time he would be at home. I wondered how would be waiting for him, and he never returning. I wondered what he and others would have done differently had they known this was his last day.

Life is so fragile. I realized this more and more each day.

I want to live my life without regrets. I want to make each and every day count to better the life of someone. Thank you to everyone of you that are mission partners that make this possible.

As we see so much poverty and malnutrition in various places, my heart aches that I personally cannot do more to help each and every person. I have to keep reminding myself, that we are not here to give “a man a fish, but to teach him to fish”. I wouldn’t have enough “fish” to make a dent anyhow. We don’t want to add to the downward spiral of creating a system of dependency and lack of ability. We want to empower people with knowledge and skills so they can reach healthy standards in many areas of their lives. Sanitation, nutrition, industry (enterprise), attitude, farming, and all the rest of the FARM STEW principles are key ingredients to help people to have abundant life.

I am thankful for the positive impact that FARM STEW is having in so many places and with so many people here in Uganda and also in South Sudan. As people learn these principles and apply them to their daily lives, lives are improving. People have hope. They have hope to give their children good nutrition, and to make some money so they can help them with their basic needs. They have hope that they are not helpless victims of circumstances, but people who have dignity and can do something to improve themselves and their lives. People need dignity. People need hope. And as people are given hope, we hope this will open the doors that many will realize the greatest Source of Hope that gives us abundant life now and for eternity. The Nile is amazing and considered a source of life. But real life is found in Jesus, and we hope to touch many lives that they will find true life in Jesus.
Here’s a story that I just received from Tamara while in Dar es Salaam.

Each day I ask God to direct my day for His service and glory. Although I am a missionary in Tanzania, mission service isn’t restricted to Tanzanians only. Today was a clear reminder to me of that. God still speaks to us, and He cares about everyone. He loves everyone.

I felt an impression that these two needed some help. I thought to myself, they are adults, they can take care of themselves. They should be fine. Then the impression continued. I prayed and asked God to not let me hear my own thoughts or that of the enemy. I felt the impression that I should help these two guys. Well, at this point, there was no place to turn around. I continued to the first place where I could turn back that direction and that was quite a distance and traffic was slow. I prayed and told God that if He wanted me to help these guys, He would have to help me find them. They were heading down a side road that I don’t really know. Many minutes had passed. I made the first right turn off the highway that was possible. Since the roads don’t all run nicely but in all directions, I was just depending on God. After driving a distance, the first road to my right seemed like the correct one, so I turned down it. Many minutes had passed since I had seen them. I just told God that if He was directing me, He knew it would take me this long, and to help me find them and help them be ok. I knew that it would be a miracle if I found them. Sure enough, that was the exact correct road. At this point, there were several motorcycles and Africans around them. I didn’t count, but I would say 5-7 maybe. As I rolled down my passenger window, and I heard one of the white guys saying something about them being bad. I honked and called out to them. I asked if they needed some help, and where they were going. They were getting a bit tense over the Africans. I told them to just get in my car and I would drive them where they need to go. They were so happy for the offer.

They got in and started to tell me that they were having some troubles with those guys. I then noticed that in addition to their tourist clothes, one had an expensive camera around his neck. I mentioned that it was probably drawing the wrong attention to them. I asked where they needed to go, and we started that way. I then asked, are you Christians. There was a pause, then one said he was brought up Christian, then another pause. I told them that I am a Christian, and then I explained what had happened. I told them I had seen them, and what I just mentioned above. I told them that God had sent me to help them. One of them said, I have never had an experience with God like that. I said I have them often. They were in shock and so appreciative for the ride. They had a pretty good distance to go, and their data package for some reason wasn’t working so they could not get a Taxify or Uber. They were on holiday for several weeks in Tanzania. They had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, been to Zanzibar, and I don’t know what else. But today they wanted to go to the Botanical Gardens. (I didn’t know there were any!) They then asked how long I had been in Tanzania (since January 2012) and what I do. I told him I was a missionary and my life is about serving Him and serving others.

They were super appreciative. As they were getting out, they offered to pay me what they would have a taxi. I refused payment but told them they could take something. I gave them a newsletter, a business card and an English message book. One said, I don’t think I will ever forget this day. We not only didn’t pay for a taxi, we got gifts!

God loves those young men. Maybe God used me to answer the prayer of one of those Christian parents. I hope God will keep those young men safe, and that this experience will really draw their hearts out to Him. Thank you for making it possible for us to minister to so many different people in so many different ways.

and waited. Finally he arrived. He was appologetic. We were

became one jam after another. The from the airport to the house was a
long one. Since we were stopped so much, and there were vendors making
their way around the stopped cars trying to sell their wares, it was
time to give out tracts. I moved my bag and fanny pack away from the
window to avoid any “grabs”. Down went my window, and out went my hand
with a tract. Soon I was giving away many tracts to the passersby.
Soon the guest who had just arrived from the US asked for some tracts to
give out on his side of the car. Then our taxi driver asked for a
tract to read. Tracts were going out.

Then a fruit

appreciative. When we arrived at our destination, I asked if he would
like some more tracts to give out. He excitedly said “Yes!”.

Some days are just full of surprises!Josiah Densmorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09718954586759127851noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1810696087502559593.post-76268322365748978712018-06-03T20:40:00.001-05:002020-02-01T18:13:45.818-06:00Come with meOne morning after consulting my map to where I had been and where I had not been to offer literature, I set off with my backpack full of books and tracts.

Several blocks from the house I met several people eating breakfast just beside the street. This is very common, as people set up “shop” at various locations if there is traffic there. I offered them tracts. After I finished, they told me to enter the gate just behind them, because there were many people inside that would want them. One person showed me inside, and sure enough, there were a make-shift breakfast places here and there inside these walls and gate. I gave my little speech about how these tracts were free, and they could choose which they wanted. I like to carry a variety at times to allow people to choose. It also helps them to see that other studies (tracts) are available, and if they want to learn more, they can.

Just as I was finishing up giving tracts to the last people inside these walls, and heading back out the gate, and the young man caught up to me and said he had some friends that I should give literature to. "Come with me," and he started off. We walked a ways, and he never looked back to see if I was following. I then asked in Swahili, “I’m to follow you, correct?” He confirmed. Ok. Follow I did. We walked up to a construction site and he called the guard to open up the gate to us. We went in and there were many people there working, guarding, or just visiting. He told me to give them literature also. I did. Then he led me into the multi-story building (under construction) and started calling out names of people to come get literature. The various people had fun asking me all kinds of questions and getting literature. Soon, I asked if I could go, and the young man said that I could. I exited the construction site, happy that God had opened yet another door!

A few streets down, people were having their breakfast at more permanent food establishments. I offered literature to the customers and workers. As I left the first cafe, I saw that there was something similar across the street. Upon entering, I realized it was more of a pub. I offered literature and everyone took something. Then one man who had obviously been drinking liquor (even though it was before 10 AM) started talking to me about someone (maybe his wife) that he wanted me to come and meet. He said she was at home and I should come to her. He even used some terminology that I would expect from a Seventh-day Adventist. I was puzzled and trying to fully comprehend what he was trying to communicate. Then suddenly from across the room, another man yelled at me, “NO!” He said it in English, even though all of us had only been speaking Swahili. I looked at him and he repeated himself with just as much seriousness. “NO!”

That was pretty clear. I took a few tracts and stuffed them in the drunk man’s shirt pocket, and told him to give them to the lady for me. The man across the room seemed content at this, and I made my way out and down the street.

One "come with me" was safe and a good experience. One "come with me" could have possibly ended my life or something else unpleasant. God knows how to keep me out of trouble when I keep my eyes and mind on Him.

I really believe that God protected me from something sinister that morning.

Thank you for all your prayers, encouragement and support that make this work possible and keep us safe from many known and unknown dangers. Many hundreds of people were given literature this day. Please pray that God will use it to be a blessing to them and those with whom they will share it with.Josiah Densmorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09718954586759127851noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1810696087502559593.post-62169049818541077612018-05-01T07:16:00.001-05:002018-05-01T07:16:26.941-05:00Future Posts - Blog savedDear friends,
Thank you so much for all your prayers. It seems that we can comply with the new laws regarding "blogging", as this blog is no long controlled or authored in Tanzania. This blog is now owned in the United States, and all future posts will be posted by the new owner.
The new owner has agreed to report future updates on the work that takes place in the mission work of the Schoch family. Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1810696087502559593.post-11402060477029823562018-04-03T04:06:00.000-05:002018-04-03T04:06:51.594-05:00"I want a book."While pet/house sitting in Dar es Salaam, I would walk the dogs twice each day on the same route. Each time I was out, I tried to make special effort to greet people, be friendly, and pray as I walked. Since I was there for more than three weeks, the regular people in the neighborhood soon recognized who I was.

Week three I felt it was time to hand out literature on my dog-walking route. I cannot give out literature while walking the dogs as most people are afraid of them. After walking the dogs, I loaded up my bags, and headed out. I started my pet route, but decided to not only offer free books/tracts to the people on the street, but also to knock at each gate. People were very curious about what I was doing, and I don't remember anyone refusing the literature. Many people wanted more than one piece.

A few days later, I was in a different part of Dar es Salaam, about a 20 minute drive, at least, from the dog route. As it was getting dark, a young man came up to me and told me that he recognized me from where I was walking the dogs and giving out literature. He said that he hadn't gotten a book the day I was out there, but really wanted one. I tried to understand where it was that he was seeing me each day. It is difficult because many of the streets don't have names. I thought I had a pretty good idea of where he was referring to (the walk is about a mile or more long.) I told him I would carry his book with me each time I walked the dogs, and he was to stop me and remind me when he saw me. He thought it was a good idea.
The next day, I didn't see him on my morning walk with the dogs. I decided I would go and give out more literature after my walk, and I did just that. I walked by where I thought I would find him, but still I did not meet him. I went down streets I felt God was leading me on. I had a great time of giving out tracts. After running out of literature, I returned back to the house. I was concerned, because I would be leaving Dar soon. If we didn't find each other soon, he would not get his promised book. I continued to carry his book each time I walked the dogs.
One evening, I walked my route, and still no young man. As I came to an intersection where I am supposed to walk straight, I felt I should go down the street to the right, so I did. I was about a block down this street when the young man came up to me and reminded me who he was and asked if I had his book. I started to explain to him that I had been looking for him each day, but had not seen him. He was on this street just now going to work, I didn't quite catch the reason. I told him that God had directed me down this street so I could give this book to him. He was very excited and grateful. I wonder if Satan was trying to keep this young man and I from meeting again, but God overruled the normal to make sure this young man got his book.
Eternity will tell.

Thank you to everyone that makes this work possible through your prayers, encouragement and support. While trying to help him with his request, somehow it also became evident that we needed a different website that didn't have the Swahili word for Bible in it so it would be more appealing to people of all faiths. Thus, a new website was created. God blessed, and we had the new website up in record time. Now we can print this new website on all new publications, and we can stamp in on current books and tracts.
I tried to design them in a way that even if a person just saw them while in someone's hand or book, they could easily see the site name and remember it.
Now the website www.kujifunzabiblia.com has two full sets of Swahili Bible studies and the 27 translated tracts.

Daily there is traffic to the site. I am praying that God will help many people to come to know Him better through these tools!
The next phase will probably be some tracts that were designed specifically for those who are in 1s1amic. We want everyone to have the opportunity to know how much God loves them!

There are still some minor adjustments yet to be made to the site now that the platform and the theme updated, but it is functional! We also hope to start advertising the site in books, tracts and on bookmarks.

On another note, the latest book seems to be in high demand.
Doug told me that book sales were up in the office. He wasn't joking. There were about 127 receipts for book sales turned in for November! I have never seen that many in one month!
People are purchasing them for themselves, and also to share. It is so exciting!
The literature evangelism program seems to like this one also. They bought almost 3,000 just a couple of weeks ago, and they requested 10,000 more today. (I started this blog several weeks ago and somehow didn't publish it!)
I have purchased many and given them out and will do the same for my upcoming trip to Dar es Salaam. I really enjoy giving out books to people. I think I want to take more than I can carry this trip, so we will be looking into the option of shipping literature by bus after I arrive there.

I'm not looking forward to being apart from my guys, but I am looking forward to some quite time to get some concentrated computer work done (websites, book layout, and much more!)

----------------------------------
So I started this post a while back. I am in Dar es Salaam and have been since the 13th. I was only able to bring some tracts, so Doug shipped me a full case of tracts and book. Then he and Joshua came to Dar for a few days to visit over the holiday and he brought me more!

I had a self-inking stamp made with the website address. I have been stamping every book and tract (that is a lot!) I finished giving out the last of the tracts today. It was probably just a little over 1,000 tracts and 15 books so far today. Some people get very excited about the tracts. That is always encouraging.
I never know what I will learn on such trips. Today, after giving some out to a group of men the one guy said something to the effect, "This foreigner is giving out something to help us, not like a lot of our own people who are giving out flyers about witch doctors."
I hadn't thought about that, but I have seen those flyers also.
Several days ago, a couple of young men were walking by. I was almost to my gate, so I had put the tracts away. The one man recognized me, and said something to the effect, "You have been giving out literature. Are you Jehov. Witness?"
I told him I was not. He then asked if he could have some of my literature. He was happy to see what I was giving out.
As I was giving out tracts, people would see the books in my bag. Several of them would ask about those also.
Something I noticed today is that some of the Mus1im ladies when they are walking alone, are often very interested in taking a tract. They take it discretely. If they are in a group or with a man, not so much, but when they are alone, they seem "hungry" for something better.
I'm not pushing anything on anyone, but I am offering hope to everyone. Please continue to pray for people. Please pray that we get literature into the hands of all those whom God wants to receive the literature. Please pray that those who should will visit the website. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to work on hearts that they may know the Truth in Jesus. People need Hope. They need to know God - Who He really is! He is wonderful and loves each one of them. I hope they will get to know Him, and love Him back.

Thank you to everyone of you who pray for us and this work. Thank you to each and every mission partner that make it possible for us to be a tool in God's hands to help people. Through your prayers, support, and encouragement, this work continues! THANK YOU. Please keep praying for this literature/website work. MwangazaI am very excited how God is helping to get the website up and functional! Not only do we have the first set of Bible studies online, but now we have 27 of the translated-into-Swahili GLOW tracts (Mwangaza) online!
As soon as I shared this with team members and on Facebook , the number of people visiting the sight went WAY UP! I started tracking traffic to the website on the 27th of October. The tracker I am using shows 491 visitors since then, and 397 have been just this week. One of the teachers here at Kibidula shared the site with 30 WhatsApp groups. It is very exciting that people can get answers to their questions on a variety of topics, including health of body, mind and spirit!

I am now working on getting the Discover Bible Studies in Swahili on the website.
Thank you to all our faithful mission partners that make this possible. Your prayers, support and encouragement make the difference!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1810696087502559593.post-91024041001576728862017-11-03T07:28:00.000-05:002017-11-03T07:28:30.107-05:00Webiste! This gospel ... in all the world ... and then shall the end come.During our mission presentations while we were on furlough early 2017, this was our key verse. Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. I long for heaven, do you? There are many things going on at Kibidula and other mission stations, seeking to share the love of Jesus with others and to share the truth about His wonderful character.

After helping to distribute over 1 million Swahili tracts in July and more afterwards, a rather steady stream of requests for more information, and especially ONLINE Swahili Bible studies, have been coming in. If God brought us this far, He will surely take us all the way.

As to be expected, we've had several challenges along the way. The
phone which has the number which is on the tracts and books was stolen.
It was several weeks before we got the number up and working again.
After that, there was yet another challenge and again calls and messages
were not getting answered. We hope that we are very close to resolving
this challenge. The phone will be going to another staff member next
week. He is excited about the work. Please pray for him to have the
energy and wisdom to deal with all the calls, emails and messages.

God sent me the right help (thanks Alan and Craig) to help me get a
Swahili Bible Study website up and running. Just last weekend I did the
finishing touches to this first phase of the website. The first series
of 15 studies is online and ready for people to read through including
links to an online Bible for each scripture reference.

In designing the website we started out with a rather fancy theme with a learning management
system plugin for the lessons. The challenge of getting everything translated
to Swahili was a huge. We made a lot of headway (days and days), but the more I
worked on the site and tested it, the more I realized that it was going to be
too complicated for many end users.
Some people will want to be
able to read the studies, but not to be identified. With the system
that we had, they would have to give us an email address and sign in.
So we scrapped that system and started all over again with the goal of
making it SUPER user friendly, and mobile-phone super friendly. (We expect that the majority of users will be looking at the studies on their mobile phones. Smart phones and phones with internet access are becoming the common thing here in Tanzania.)
So the revised site is easy to use, but not fancy. It is ALL
in Swahili! YEAH! PRAISE TO BE GOD - we have a Swahili online Bible study website up and
functional! Some of the staff have already looked it over. They are
pleased, and they are sharing the site with others.
There will be more courses added soon along with tracts.

Tuesday I sent the new website link to the people who have contacted us asking for more information. We have received more than 30 emails on our new email address, and (since September 10th) 130 phone calls and text messages. I still have about 240 more numbers to contact from calls and message prior to September 10th.

Immediately after sending out the website to those who had contacted us previously we started getting responses such as the following:

Ahsante nashukuru Mungu akubariki (Thank you, I appreciate you. May God bless you!)

Kuna ujumbe mlinitumia ndipo nikajibu kwa kushukuru. Bwana awabariki kwa kuanzisha tovuti ya kujifunza Biblia. Nitawajulisha watu wengine wajifunze habari njema za Mbinguni. (There was a message that you sent to me. Indeed I answer with gratitude. May God bless you for starting a website for learning the Bible. I will let others know so that they may learn the good news of Heaven.)

I'm excited and hope you are excited also! People want to know the truth!

We are putting the website address on future books and tracts to make it easier for people to find it.If you would like to look at it (Yes it is in Swahili) it is at www.kujifunzabiblia.com. Kujifunza means "to learn" and Biblia is "Bible". So our site is called "To learn the Bible". If you go to look at it, please don't just go to the first page, click and go inside a little ways. Joshua said that helps with search engine results later. I think you can figure out where to click. (On the second page you should choose the top option as the two bottom ones are "course to come in the future".
We hope that many people will come to see the loveliness of Jesus through this new tool. We hope that this website will help in spreading THIS GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM INTO ALL THE WORLD that Jesus may come! Please pray that God will use it for His glory. Thank you to all of our mission partners. Your love, prayers, encouragement and support make this and many other things possible! I had better finish it and get it posted!) It has only been five days since we fought the biggest fire I have had to fight so far. More than 100 acres were burned and more than 1,000 planted trees burned. One person sprained both of his wrists when he landed very badly while trying to jump down from the water truck.
Sabbath morning I was to give the main message at church. This fire that had just finally burned out the evening before was very, very fresh in each person's mind. This fire reminds me of many examples that we can learn from.

Saturday morning as we sat around the kitchen table eating breakfast, we discussed what we could have done better. My family has backpack sprayers that we keep full of water to help cool down the fire line so people can beat out the fire better. The fire was SO HOT that it was keeping us too far away to be very effective for very long. We could spray for only moments before we would have to retreat ourselves. Our hands and bodies were catching way to much heat. I decided to add another shirt to my "fire clothes", gloves to protect my hands from the heat, and we rounded up some fire helmets which would keep the heat off our faces and heads (or at least greatly reduce it).
Lesson 1: BE READY! We got all of our supplies together and put them in the truck. The wind was just too strong to ignore the fact that there were still some smoldering embers still out there. It wouldn't take much for another fire to spring up. Even though we were dressed for church, we took our boots, our clothes, our full water packs, and helmets.
Be ye also ready. How do we be ready everything in spiritual matters? Have we taken the time to store up and place the necessary supplies for the day's emergencies? Have we spent time with the Master, taking in His character, love, and assurance? We certainly will face emergencies throughout the day and need to draw from His sources. If we don't have them stored up and ready, how can we use them? We need to "be ye also ready" at all times.
Unquenchable Fire - That term has confused many people for many years. Many people understand the term to me that it WON'T go out. Some other people understand the term meaning you CAN'T put it out until it burns itself out. We had a great example of that with this fire. With the high winds, difficult terrain, and the extremely dry conditions, we could only fight the fire somewhat, but it was making gains faster than we were able control it. It was unquenchable. We could not quench this fire. It has to burn itself out. Our only option was to start back burns and allow it to finish itself out with all the fuel in its path, but in a more controlled manner. That controlled manner was that we started small fires along another fire break where it was headed towards. The fire was small as we lit it. As it started to burn away from the break and towards the coming fire it grew larger and larger. It was burning away from us, not towards the break, where it could have jumped (as it had already jumped three or four roads already. The fire finally burned itself out, as we could not put it out. It was a great example of UNQUENCHABLE FIRE.
Which version does the Bible support regarding "unquenchable fire"? Sodom and Gomorrah were burned with "unquenchable fire". Are they still burning? No. They burned in a manner that could not be put out until the fire had finished its job of burning everything up. In the book Malachi, instead of burning for ceaseless ages, the text indicates that those who refuse to accept Jesus will become ashes. (Mal 4:3) And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. There are MANY, many scriptures that point to "hell fire" being a solitary even that burns up and burns out. Nobody in their right mind likes to see anything suffer and burn. Why would we believe satan's lie about God burning people for endless ages? No wonder so many people have turned away from a God like that. My God, the real God, is the God of love. Fire is very cleansing. Sin will be burned up and away. We could never enjoy ceaseless ages of "heaven" if we knew anybody was burning on and on and on. Anyhow. Don't take my word for it. Check out ALL the Bible verses regarding Hell Fire, and pray. God will lead you into all truth if you ask Him to, and are willing to accept it. I can't say it better than many others who have put the verses together already. Check out https://www.helltruth.com/ to get video, audio and reading material based on THE BIBLE, (not tradition, not theory). (Beware of TRADITIONS. The Bible gives MANY warnings about those, just one is here: (Mar 7:13) Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.)
Thanks for all the prayers. This 2017 fire season has been better (we are
more ready!) We have more equipment this year, which had helped very,
very much. We have three backpack blowers, we have changed up the water
truck to be more effective, and we have even pulled in the bulldozer on
two fires. We did still have to light another big back-burn though,
and that fire still jumped. That one was unquenchable also! God gives
us so many lessons each day. I hope I am learning what He is teaching,
and I hope that I can share some of the blessings He gives us.
Be ye also ready and don't be deceived by tradition. Almost then ENTIRE world (especially the religious leaders of the day) were not ready when Jesus came the first time. Do we really think we are smarter today? Do we think Satan has gotten any less effective at deceiving people? Could it be that the majority will believe a lie at the end of time just before Jesus comes again? (Rev 12:9) "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Luk 18:8) "I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"

I'm so thankful that we can always trust the Bible - the whole Bible. He is the Word, the Word made flesh. I hope you know Jesus (the REAL Jesus as found throughout the WHOLE Bible.) His is LOVE! He is wonderful, and He loves you! I hope you will get to know Him more and more each day, so you are ready to spend eternity with Him starting now!
As I mentioned before, at times they would be going as fast as I could separate them. Often I didn't even see the faces of the takers. Then it happened.

"Excuse me! Excuse me!", I heard from behind me, as this huge representative of the human race loomed over me.

He came around me from behind as I realized he was trying to get my attention. I turned to meet him, and he started asking me question (I think in English).

"This thing you are handing out." He showed me a GLOW tract. "Is it about religion?", he asked.

Not knowing which one he had received, as he was showing me the back, I replied, "A little bit." I was wondering if he was mad or what. Was I finally in trouble this time? This conversation took place several hours ago. I wish I remember it more clearly now.

He showed me on the back where it says (in Swahili) "Do you want to learn more about the Bible? Contact us by phone or email."

"This is about religion!" He said, still booming a bit.

I just kept silent and looked at him. I didn't know what I should to say at this point.

He continued, "I am IsIamic."

I had sort of gather that already from his clothing.

He continued, "Is this for me? Can ANYONE learn more about the Bible? Even me, an IsIamic?"

Now I had something to say! "Yes! This is for anyone who would like to know more."

He looked confused and intrigued at the same time. At this point, I handed him another tract which was a small Bible Study within itself. He looked pleased.

He said, "Thank you!" and he headed the way I had come from, and I continued ahead, praising God.

The main reason I was on the street this day handing out tracts is because my hard drive on my laptop is down. If things had been as I planned, I would have been staying at the house where I am house/pet sitting working on the new books and tracts that we are translating and having printed. Well, Satan may have meant it for evil, but God allowed it for good. Instead of working indoors, I was out on the street and met this beautiful (scary and big) human being that wants to learn more about God.

*BLACK EYE TO SATAN TODAY!*

Please join with me in prayers that God will help us get these tracts into the hands of those that will accept them. Please pray that people will be willing to take them, willing to read them, and that they will respond to God's Holy Spirit seeking to reveal Himself to each one of them. We are in this battle together. Your prayers and support are life to this work as we are tools in God's hands here. PLEASE keep praying for the people of Dar es Salaam and all of Tanzania (and all the world!) Let's see THIS GOSPEL of the Kingdom go into ALL THE WORLD!

The original idea was to distribute all one million tracts all over Dar es Salaam in four days. Of course there were some adjustments that needed to be made, but they are going out. I looks like it will take more like a week, but they are going out in mass amounts. People are excited to receive them, and we see people all over the city reading them, and sharing them with others.
Yesterday I offered one to a person about 1 1/2 hours away from where we were distributing them earlier in the week. He said he had gotten one on that other side of town. I asked if it was good. He said it really was and asked if we had given any down in Mbeya (very far away from here about 5 hours on the OTHER side of Kibidula). I told him we had not. He asked if we please would. He said the use of alcohol there is very bad and people need help. He had gotten the "breaking addictions" tract. He gladly took the other three subjects I had with me yesterday.
On Thursday, we were in another area, and one of the team gave a man the same tract. He got so very excited. I was the last of the team (and the only one speaking Swahili). He asked if he could have more, as he works with addiction recover houses in several places. He asked where he could buy them, and if he could have some more right now. I gave him instructions how to contact us to order more, and we also gave him a bundle to use immediately.
People are gladly taking them, and they are reading them. We are getting amazing responses from people. AMAZING responses. I can't share them all, and I don't want to share too much, as to hurt the cause. Please keep praying for people as they receive HOPE! People need HOPE. People need to come to know that Jesus loves them, and has plans to help them in every area of their lives!
Dear friends and family,

I see that I have been very negligent in keeping this blog up-to-date. Between doing the monthly e-newsletter for Kibidula, monthly updates to a couple of churches, prayer requests and praises to LIGHT every two weeks, trying to keep the Kibidula website up-to-date (which I have not done a good job with either), this blog has been highly neglected! I feel like I am being redundant, but I need to be more faithful in keeping you updated on what has been going on in the mission field. I ask for your forgiveness.
That being said, we are in the US right now and we have already started giving presentations on what has happened in the last two years.
The following shows our schedule currently (subject to change!), and presentations are marked with and asterisk (*):

I am not the most patient person in the world. You can pray for me.
I like to see things happen. I like to help make things happen. I like to see "PROGRESS!"
I remember when I was giving birth to Joshua. Joshua was STUCK. I was in labor for 27 1/2 hours. I remember asking the midwives (who knows how many times) are we making any progress? Anyhow...

I like progress. I like to see results. Life isn't always cooperative with this kind of an attitude. Although it can be a great attitude in many work situations, it can be frustrating as a parent or in dealing with people situations (or waiting on work from others).

Back on February 6th of this year, we were just adjusting to the addition of little Alto to our lives. She had just arrived the day before according to my pictures on my phone. I was outside and the cat was watching something. As I looked, I saw the biggest and (honestly) rather scary looking, hairy caterpillar that I had ever seen before. (Many of the hairy ones can cause serious skin irritation.) He was headed for the porch, so I captured him in a jar. We observed him for a while, and decided we had better let him loose before night.

You can see the beginnings of his cocoon at the bottom.

We coaxed him onto a tree just outside the fence. When I took him out of the jar, I noticed he had something started (web? I didn't know what it was.)

The next morning, I went out and he was no longer a caterpillar!
There was this soft mass covered with hair and spines attached to the tree where I had left him the evening before.

By the end of the day, it had formed up a little more.

I am not sure how long we left it there before I decided I wanted to see what came out of that cocoon. I cut the bark off the tree and glued him to a craft stick, and we kept him in the house.
In the beginning we would check on him almost daily. Then it became checking on him a few times a week. Then as the months went by, I would sometimes forget about him completely.
From time to time we would search online to see if we could identify him by the caterpillar stage and also the cocoon stage. From our research, we thought it might be a African wild silk moth.
I was concerned that the cocoon might be getting to dry, or too hot, or too who-knows-what. I had never hatched a cocoon before. One day while working at my desk which is in my bedroom, I heard a faint scratching sound a few times. I though maybe we had a mouse in our room. Then after a while, I thought it might be the cocoon. It had lots of spines on it. I moved the little bucket which contained him right next to my work area. Sure enough, a little later in the day, that thing moved so much I saw it out of the corner of my eye. It was very active. At least I knew it was still alive!
We decided it was time to move it to the "bug house" that Joshua had started many months ago. Trying to relocate this spiny thing without getting poked is challenging. Those spines make me itch.
He was moved. Then the wait started again. We would check more often again.
The days passed on.
Then...
One afternoon, I walked into my room and what do you know?! There was a huge moth in there with the cocoon! I made some kind of excited sound as I saw it. Joshua heard me and said, "What?!"

Then he said, "OH!!!!"
He figured it out without me saying anything. Soon he was in my room with me, checking out our long awaited guest!
It was August 15th! It had been more than SIX MONTHS!

We were so excited that he lived and was actually pretty cute.

We were able to share how moths and butterflies change from caterpillars with several people. Our worker Beltina was totally surprised to learn this. She said that the village people had seen such cocoons while gathering fire wood, but didn't know what they were.

After watching him for several house, taking lots of pictures, and sharing him with others, we put him outside on the porch post.

The next morning, he was still there.

The next morning, he was STILL there.
Finally after a few days, he was gone. I am assuming he caught the sent of a female and flew away to start the next generation of such moths.
There are so many lessons that we can take away from this experience.
First, patience. Some things take time. There are some things that should not be rushed. Growth normally takes time. We need to be patient with each other and even ourselves. As we look to Jesus, know His true character, and trust Him, we become more and more like Him, the changes will come. Some changes are fast, others take effort as we must keep our eyes on Jesus and accept victory in Him daily. My job is "to seek Him" with my whole heart, soul, strength, and mind. He has the victory for me, I need to keep looking to Him and accept it. In my own strength, I can do NOTHING, but "in Him" I can do all things... which leads to the next lesson -
Transformation....
When that "bug" was in the cocoon, what was it? It was GOO! That caterpillar totally (TOTALLY!) dissolved. I could not open it up and find a 1/2 caterpillar and 1/2 moth at any stage. That needs to be the same with me. When I am converted, my goals, my motives, my life need to be all about loving God and wanting to bring Him glory. If I try to go 1/2 way, I will not become what God is trying to make of my life. I need to be a NEW CREATURE in Christ Jesus. The OLD must pass away and all things must become new.
It amazes me to this day that many of the things I once loved, have no appeal to me today. Many of the things I didn't like, today I love.
And daily, God is still changing me. He is helping me leave off wrong thoughts which lead to wrong feelings. He is trying to make something beautiful out of my life even though I have been an ugly caterpillar and scary cocoon. In the right lighting, that moth is beautiful!
When I stay in the sunshine of God's love, others may get a glimpse of Jesus (even through me!)
That bug's job was to stay in the plan. My job is to stay in the center of the God's will for my life. He is changing me. He is helping me let go of things that bring pain to myself and others. Some day... some day... He will finished that which He has begun in me.
I am so looking forward to Heaven. I am looking forward to knowing my Jesus face to face. I am looking forward to seeing all of creation without the slightest blight of sin.
How about you? I hope so! God loves you!
You know, we can have some ugly spots in our lives. That caterpillar and cocoon were rather scary and even dangerous. No matter what mistakes you may have made, HE LOVES YOU! And He STILL has a GREAT plan for your life. Look to Him. Keep looking to Him. By beholding we become changed. Make sure you are looking at the TRUE character of God. HE IS LOVE! And everything about Him is Love.
Keep hanging on (just like that cocoon). The day is coming... just a little bit longer... but not too much longer! I have gone to five different meetings now outside of Kibidula so far (Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam-another time, Morogoro, Iringa, and Singida).
I have been reading books, articles, watching tutorials, asking lots of questions, and doing a lot of trial and error.
It has been challenging, but I think some of it is starting to come together. Because I know so little, it makes me aware of my total need of God to help me through it.
First I started with books to publish that had already been printed by us previously. I only needed to make very minor changes (didn't seem minor the first time though!) like changing the spine size and information on the first few pages.
Then I got books where the text was all ready but the entire cover needed to be updated (and a few pages!)
Then I received the text where all the words were fine, but the layout was not. So this was a new experience to put it all in a specific layout (with additions of little inserts), add pictures, and design three covers for it.
Soon, I will have the entire project to work out. The text will be raw from the editors, and everything will be new.
This next project (You Turn, a shortened version of Health Power) requires a LOT of pictures throughout the book with the text flowing around pictures of different shapes and such.
God is so good to walk me step by step by step through this process instead of making me jump in the deep end all at once!
Truly this is His work, and He leads step by step. I am thankful for such a Wonderful, Loving Leader!
I am very excited about the Steps to Christ book project we are working on right now. If we can get the proper backing, we hope to make this book available at a very affordable price to the public! I personally plan to buy a LOT of them to give out (especially to the police when they pull us over).

These little books can reach people in places where no person can go
personally. These books can bring the good news of better health of
body, spirit, and mind!
(In many senses of the word)We have some very tall, old trees that are about past their usefulness. The decision to hire some locals to cut and mill the trees was made. We have been hearing chainsaws and the portable sawmill for weeks around here.
We also have a new skyline since so many tall trees are down now.
Last week some of the Cootz, Joshua and I went out to see some of the operation in action. The mill wasn't going, but we saw stacks and stacks of cut lumber. We also heard cow bells and a chainsaw. We had to work our way into where they were working, but it was worth it!

It seems that the big trees are mostly cut on Sunday. Then the main person works to cut the large trees into sections. Then he uses his chainsaw to cut them into thirds or fourths. He does an amazing job milling those pieces with only a chainsaw. They look so straight and even pretty smooth!

Then this last Sunday, the tallest trees closest to the shop were cut down. These were located between many structures (the old farm house, the little house behind, the little round outbuilding, the "outhouse" (choo), and the garage/shop.
Jason used the JCB to move a piece of equipment, and then used it to help the trees fall a better direction than if they were just cut. He also used it to move the big trees to a pile away from where they were falling. It was amazing! God really blessed us with a great piece of equipment. It is used to make fire breaks, roads, fix roads, move trees, help fall trees, dig up stumps, dig the ditch for the dam, and many other things I don't even know about, I am sure!
"FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!"
All hands on deck would be a good interpretation. We have had three unexpected fires already this dry season on campus and one nearby where we were called to help.
The winds are STRONG now. The grass is too tall and too dry. This all makes for a challenging fire season!
Thankfully I don't believe anything important has been burned.
Even the fire that went through the old cow pasture didn't seem to harm the wooden posts.
God is so gracious to us!
It is also honey harvesting season. How do they calm the bees? They use smoke.
Where there is smoke.... (you know the rest)... there is fire.
So some of the fires are because the remains after smoking the beehive have not been put out well enough. The following day when it is warm, dry and WINDY, the fires have started up. It is almost ALWAYS in the afternoon that we have fires, but not always. Our second fire was in the morning.

GOD INTERVENED AGAIN.
Our last fire was our largest one so far. It happened on a Sunday and most of our staff and nearly all of our students were GONE!
The phone rang and it was Jason. He was a LONG way off, on his way back from town with a truck full of window glass for the press building. He asked where the smoke was. He said he could see BIG SMOKE and it looked like it was at Kibidula or just north of us from where he was. I asked where he was. HE WAS A LONG WAY OFF. I ran out to the road, and could see NOTHING. NOTHING.......
Doug and Joshua jumped on the motorcycle and off they went to see if they could see smoke. They went one direction, and not too far away, Joshua saw two small puffs of smoke the other direction. They turned around and zipped off, coming back by here. I immediately changed clothes into some I didn't mind messing up, and called the Cootz (only the ladies home at that time!)
Then I get the message, YES it is HERE and it is BIG! I start calling people and running to get the truck ready. Jason said he already got the message and called the driver of the water truck and "our" fire chief. After driving to get a few more helpers (I will try to keep this a short and not include ALL the details), off we went to join those that had already arrived.
As I was driving out, I started to think it must already be out. I couldn't even see the smoke from the house or much of the road. As we finally got closer, we could see LOTS OF SMOKE! The wind was so strong that day that the smoke was being pushed off down low for a distance and wasn't very noticeable from campus roads!
The water truck and crew were busy and the fire was out within an hour.

In talking to Jason after it was out, he said by the time he got close to campus, it looked like the smoke was FAR away.
WHAT? If Jason had waited until he got close, he would have dismissed it as not here.
Oh, how thankful we are that God showed him BIG SMOKE from far away, or that fire would have been HUGE by the time we would have found out about it! God intervened again. God impressed him that it was at Kibidula or very close to it. I am so thankful that the few people that were able to come to the fire were around. We were not a lot of poeple.

All the glory goes to God.
God intervenes!Yesterday, Doug received a call asking if he could escort a truck load of bags of cement out to the new building site for the One-Day School that has been started here.
He finished his lunch quickly and left.
When he got home, he relayed this story to me.
He said, "I lost my phone."

I asked what happened. He said it fell out of his pocket on the way to the work site. I said I hoped it didn't get run over by the truck! Then he showed it to me. The screen cover was partially off and it was a little dirty.
He laughed and told me the rest of the story. He said his alarm to renew his phone package went off as he was escorting the truck out. He pulled out his phone and turned off the alarm while driving. He then put it back in his pocket. He was going slow because the truck was coming slowly. He doesn't have any mirrors on the motorcycle (another story).
At some point after arriving there, he searched for his phone and realized it was missing. He retraced his steps and drove back out to where he had last used it. Nothing.
He asked others there to call his phone to help him find it.
If I understand correctly, someone even asked one of the people that were in the truck about it, but didn't get a response.
Doug listened carefully while close to the truck, and sure enough, he heard something inside. Our director climbed in and started digging. I mean digging.
It was buried beneath a cushion and pile of coats. It would seem that someone didn't want the phone to be heard. They must have seen it on the road or even fall out of his pocket and retrieved it.
They didn't get it turned off before arriving at the delivery spot.
It would seem they hoped the mound of coats and cushion would keep it from being heard and retrieved.
We praise the Lord for helping Doug get his phone back.

God is so good to us. We just don't know how many times he intervenes!

It reminds me of the incident that happened several weeks ago in town. Tere, Catherine and I were in town doing shopping for ourselves and others. We split up for some reason. I was putting my phone in one of my baskets. Each time I came back I would unload my basket into the truck and continue on. We had put a LOT of stuff in the back of the truck. We had parted ways. When I came back to the truck about 15 minutes or so later, Tere and Catherine were there. They said they were so glad to see me and pointed out my phone was sitting right out in the open in the back of the truck on top of everything in plain site!
OH, I about choked! All I could do was praise God over and over again for protecting my phone even in my carelessness!

Several weeks before this, we were trying to get phone lines set up for the Cootz and I ended up getting a new sim card also. We were pulling out and putting in new sim cards, cutting them, trying this and that to make everything work. I was being very careful each time to put the tiny sim card in a safe place each time I changed one out. It had been a full size sim card, but was now trimmed down to the smaller version.

When we finished there (which was a little booth by the side of the road), we went back to the truck to leave. I don't remember why, but I decided to check for the sim card (my original one). I looked for it and could not find it. I was sure it was in my little pink zippered pocket. I told the others I couldn't find it. Tere said, it is in your little pink zipper purse. I said I was sure it was too, but I had looked more than once already and it wasn't there! I said she could look for it while I went and retraced my steps. I walked back to the place and told them what happened and we looked all around, nothing....
I was praying. This was my main phone number line and I also had "money" on that line, maybe $30 or more. I prayed and walked, and searched. The thing is about the size of a large pea. It could blend in so well with little pieces of paper.
God lead me to the exact right place in the ROAD and there it was. I picked it up flashed it to the people at the stand who were also still looking on the ground for it. I praised God all the way back for helping me find my needle in a haystack!

GOD CARES. He really does. Little things, big things. I don't recommend being careless, but I am so thankful that He is there in our time of trouble! He was right there in the middle of it with them helping with first-aid issues and other things. We were told that there was a terrible case of bed bugs where they stayed. Some of our students were "city folk" so the village conditions were a real eye-opener for some of them. One student said she didn't have a clue that people of her own country lived so close to the edge of survival.
One lady in particular that had some nasty wounds on her legs was helped by Mr. Bill and our students. Before the end of the meetings she was able to walk again and even walked to the church service. We are thankful that we can watch God work to help people not only physically but also spiritually.
Here are a few other excerpts from Bills notes on the village effort.

We were provided with a five room building for all 30 of us, two rooms for the ladies, 3 for the guy's, no kitchen or bathroom of course. The kitchen was a separate little building apart from the main house with a two or three burner stove, depending on how many fires you want to make on the floor. Totally off the grid as you would expect. We did have running water however, would you like to know how far we had to run for it? Only one quarter mile twice a day. We had 5 gallon containers and buckets. The guys would carry these containers, usually by their handles, some on their shoulders, that was my preference, the ladies choose to carry these 70 lb. burdens on their heads. I think it will forever fascinate me to watch them do this. One day while I was getting my bath water at the pump, two little, really little girls, no more than 6, or 7 years old, were also fetching their family's water supply. I pumped the water into their buckets, and with all my strength, lifted each bucket above their heads, until they positioned themselves under their load, relieving me of the weigh that made my arms shake, then in amazement watched them skip away, okay, they didn't skip, but it would not have surprised me if they had.

What occupied most of our time was walking from home to home visiting, making friends, sharing the gospel as we had opportunity, and having prayer with them. On the first day out, our group of three came to the home of an intoxicated man working his craft of basket weaving, his wife sitting on the ground with their youngest of eight children by her side. All three looking dirty and dejected, the woman especially, with her head hung down, not bothering to even look at perhaps the only visitors they may of had for years. After ten minutes of trying to encourage this family, we started to leave, but by the request of the husband to his wife to show us her lower left leg, we stayed to see a sight that made our stomachs turn. On the front of this leg was a 4 inch gash, very deep and badly infected, due to an injury received by falling two months prior to our visit. The infection surrounding the wound by 3 to 4 inches, wrapping around to the back of the leg. Then were her right leg makes contact with the oozing fluid of the infection, the infection had spread to that leg as well. Before even considering the implications of the problem, I told the students who were with me that we have to treat this. Fortunately I packed my little first aid kit; a small roll of gauze, some tape, a few band aids, what more do you need to save a leg. In the bush country of Africa you do what you have to do with what ever you have. We returned the next day to start treatments, washing the infected area with warm water and soap. One day we forgot the soap and she didn't have any, so we used a small packet of shampoo I had in my backpack from a hotel. After cleaning the wound and the infected areas we applied a charcoal poultice, prayed, and left. By the third treatment, the oozing had stopped and the infection was in remission. A week and a half later we were able to stop the charcoal treatment and focus on aiding the healing process. For that we applied honey. Toward the end of the 3 weeks of treatments, the women told us how surprised her neighbors were to see her walking again. We didn't realize when we first met her that she wasn't walking.
It didn't take long before word got out that we were helping people. We were mostly getting people with infected foot injuries....

We were taken to the home of a little 7 year old girl who became ill when she was 2 years old. She was hospitalized for a week, recovered from the illness, but was no longer able to walk or talk. Her mother died giving birth to her next sibling so Sara, was given to her grandparents to raise. Tanzania does not have facilities, or homes for the handicapped. This is not an uncommon case, I have seen it twice before. As the child gets older, so do the grandparents, until they are incapable to meet the increasing needs of the child. They usually die at a young age of neglect and starvation. We took a video of her and as much information as we could, and told the father we would try to locate a facility that can give her the care she needs.

Three days before our effort ended, a mother brought her eight year old daughter to us with a massive infected sore on her neck, under her left ear. My heart sank at the sight of this beautiful child with this nasty infection eating away her flesh. So what can we do? We do the best we can with what we have, and pray! After the third, and last day of treatment with charcoal and honey, the improvement was remarkable. We instructed the mother to continue the treatment until she is completely healed. I hope to go back to that village to check on her.

Each evening we conducted meetings, mostly on better living habits and health. It amazed me how far people would walk on trails in the dark to attend the meetings. The meetings were conducted in front of the building we were living in. One evening a large black snake was seen coming out of the building. Those who seen, and killed it believe it came out of the room that I and two other men slept in, on the floor.

After about fifteen nights of being eaten by bed bugs, I finally figured out how to get rid of them. God's natural remedies are truly wonderful. I would take a clove of garlic into my sleeping bag and rub it all over myself, then leave the rest of the garlic in the bag through the night.

On June 19th, we said goodbye to the second year students that graduated from our agriculture school sponsored by REACH Switzerland. We had 27 graduates. It was a happy day for them and their families.
This ambitious group of students and staff decided they would work extra hard to clean up the things left over from construction so they could use our new multipurpose building. It was a fantastic way to begin the use of this new building.
Please do continue to pray for the young people here in Tanzania. We seek to equip them with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual tools to help them in this life and for eternity.
In addition to the agriculture, spiritual, English, sewing, and carpentry lessons, the graduates were offered a very special deal. Sewing machines and carpentry tools were purchased and for a fraction of the cost, the students were able to purchase them so they could immediately go to work with their acquired skills.

Oh, it has been so long since I blogged, it took me a while to figure out how to do it again.
So I am looking through my pictures to remind me of some of the events over the last few months.

I
apologize for those who like to read these posts. We have been very
busy, and I haven't made the time to keep you informed. Please forgive
me.

A lot has happened over the last many months.

Randy and
Fletcher came and put the together the Zenair 801. It was such an exciting day

Then just after this, in November, we had four young men come to help us out. It was a special treat for us because they are young men that we know from when we lived in Missouri. The Tafts and Banges helped us personally and as a mission station with MANY, MANY projects. We have just had more to do than we have time or manpower. These young men jumped in and helped us get many projects moving forward. We really appreciate their willingness and sacrifice to come be a blessing to so many and especially us!
The last load of sheep was sold before the end of 2015.

I started the year out in an unexpected way. I came down with typhoid fever. Because of a very quick and long driving trip to Dar es Salaam to get some paperwork moving the right direction, I didn't get enough sleep on the trip, and I got VERY SICK. I was out of commission for several days. I finally had to go get tested as my fevers were very high and I didn't want to eat. God helped me get well! A few others on campus also came down with it. We aren't sure what the source was.

Doug and I taught the medical missionary session in January (I did until I got so sick). We had a very large class.

It seems like I have been back and forth to Dar es Salaam many times and also on other trips since getting involved with the publishing work. On the way back from one trip, we saw something unusual.
At the beginning of February we had to "put down" our beloved Lassie. He was the best guard dog, and super family pet. He had developed cancerous tumors all over and had a huge painful swelling on his shoulder. He got to where he couldn't get comfortable, and hardly could get up and down. We just couldn't watch him suffer and die slowly. It was a hard day in the Schoch house.

With his passing, we needed a new "guard dog". We asked for a male, and ended up with little Alto. She is a funny GIRL.
With much help and effort, she was finally freed and walked back to the herd, but not before a torrential rain soaked us.
